Why LAiDIES exists

Why women must shape AI.

New technology does not automatically leave old inequalities behind. AI can reproduce the biases in the data, assumptions and decisions used to build it. If women’s needs and experiences are left out, we risk repeating the same mistakes—continuing to embed bias in the systems that shape work, opportunity and everyday life. We must not let this happen again and we must participate in how those systems are built, used, and held accountable.

So why should women engage and participate with AI when we are already so busy?

Use it better. Take your career further.From “ARGH, WTF?” to “Ah. That’s why.”What you ask, what context you provide, what the system can see and how you evaluate its answer can all change the result. Understand why an AI tool has gone off track—and what you can do about it. These are practical career skills: strengthening your work, exercising judgment and preparing for new responsibilities.
See through the noise. Make sound decisions.From “OMG, the end is nigh!” to “Ugh, as if.”You cannot cut through that noise by memorising a list of approved opinions. You need enough of the fundamentals to ask: What evidence supports the claim? What does the demonstration leave out? What would have to be true for this prediction to happen? That is how you evaluate a tool, a workplace proposal or a headline on its merits.
Have a say. Help change the defaults.From “Whatever” to “RSVP: Yes. I have notes!”Once you understand how AI works, you can participate meaningfully in decisions about what happens next. These debates are already happening—in workplaces, governments, schools, city halls and homes. Refusing to engage does not stop decisions from being made. It only means they will be made without you.

Every lesson unfolds in SUNNYVAiLE—a fictional town tuned to the Rewind Era (1990–2010), where sequential stories, accurate pop-culture analogies, practical activities and original songs work together to make AI easier to understand, use and remember.

Then visit Delta LAi Nu, SUNNYVAiLE’s sorority house and community home. Explore the rooms, join the conversation and try Girl Talk—our private honour-system spin on classic ’90s truth or dare.

It’s considerably more fun than joining yet another professional networking group.

Inside your Closet, you can keep track of what you have found around town:

  • Charms: Hidden around town. Spot one and it snaps onto your bracelet.
  • Puffies: Puffy stickers that mark your favourite Handbook pages. The Puffy Board keeps them together.
  • Stickers: Selected quizzes and activities can add keepsakes to your Card. They are saved in this browser.
  • Trading cards: Preview the teaching prompts planned for each episode. Packs, ownership, duplicates and trading are not available yet.
  • Mail: Notes and gifts to your girls through the Post Office. Coming soon.
